Music editor named in High Halden fatal crash

A man who died after his car left a road in Kent and hit a tree has been named as Robert Maycock.

The 63-year-old was driving a Citroen Xsara in High Halden, near Ashford at about 10:30 GMT on 25 January.

Police have said it appeared his car left Plurenden Road and hit a tree. No other vehicle was involved.

Mr Maycock was the music editor of The Independent and lived in Tenterden. He leaves his partner Priti Paintal and their children Alisha and Rohan.

As well as being the founding editor of Classic Music Magazine, Mr Maycock chaired several Arts Council bodies and wrote a biography of composer Philip Glass.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them.
