Woman killed by car on M2 motorway in Medway

A 35-year-old woman was killed when she was hit by a car after crashing her vehicle on the M2 motorway in Kent.

Kent Police said the woman was standing between the central reservation and when she was struck by the Ford Mondeo.

It is believed she got out of her Peugeot 207 after it crashed into the safety barrier near Strood at about 19.30 GMT on Wednesday.

She was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident, near junction 2 of the coastbound carriageway.

'Crucial information'

The driver of the Mondeo was treated at Medway Maritime Hospital for minor injuries and later discharged.

The force has appealed for any witnesses to the incident.

A spokeswoman for Kent Police said: "In particular, officers are keen to speak to motorists who were stopped in traffic after the second collision.

"CCTV has revealed that several motorists are stopped in the carriageway after the fatal collision but leave before officers are able to take their details.

"Police would like to hear from these motorists as they may have information crucial to the investigation."
