Kent Police said the Herne Bay man's Citroen Xsara crossed from the outside lane to the inside lane of the London-bound carriageway of Thanet Way.

The accident happened just before the Chestfield tunnels, near Whitstable, at about 18:00 BST on Monday.

No other vehicles were involved. Both lanes were closed until 19:45.

The road remained partially closed until 00:30 on Tuesday while emergency services were at the scene.
