'Human bones' found near railway in Herne Bay

A skull and other bones, suspected to be human remains, have been found by workmen clearing undergrowth near a railway line in Kent.

The remains were discovered in Herne Bay just after 16:00 BST on Monday, British Transport Police (BTP) said.

Inquiries are being carried out to identify the remains and to determine the cause of death.

The incident is being treated as unexplained, and the location has been cordoned off as a crime scene.

The remains were found near Margate Road and Reculver Road.

"Detectives are currently working to establish the full circumstances and are working with a Home Office pathologist and a forensic anthropologist in an attempt to identify the individual, including determining their gender," said a BTP spokesman.
