Police identify 'missing man' remains found in Herne Bay

Human remains found by workmen clearing undergrowth near a railway line in Kent are believed to a man who was reported missing eight years ago.

A skull and other bones were discovered in Herne Bay on Monday, according to British Transport Police (BTP).

The death is being treated as unexplained but the remains are believed to be those of a 58-year-old local man who disappeared in 2004.

A spokesman for BTP said detectives were speaking to the man's family.

He said: "Detectives investigating the discovery of human remains close to a railway line in Herne Bay, Kent, now believe they are those of a man from Herne Bay who was reported missing in 2004 aged 58.

"This follows inquiries made at the scene and checks on details of missing people from the local area."

The remains were found near Margate Road and Reculver Road.
