The operator of Eurotunnel said a record number of tourist vehicles had used its service in advance of the Jubilee weekend.

Eurotunnel Le Shuttle transports vehicles between Folkestone, Kent, and Calais in France.

On Friday it transported 10,508 tourist vehicles, which include cars and coaches, compared with its previous one-day record of 9,382, in July 2010.

Managers believe the half-term holiday and four-day weekend caused the rise.
