Missing Kent pensioner believed dead after body found

A missing 82-year-old man may have been the victim of a fatal crash, according to Kent Police.

A body believed to be that of missing pensioner Alfred Cole was discovered on the Maidstone-bound carriageway of the A249 at 02:45 BST.

Mr Cole went missing from the Ashford area at 11:00 BST on Tuesday.

Police said the driver may not have been aware of the collision as the road had no lighting.

Det Sgt Scott Lynch said: "As yet we do not have any details on the vehicle that was involved in the collision.

"The road does not have any lighting and it is quite possible that the driver of this vehicle did not know they had collided with a pedestrian."

He added that anyone travelling on the road at around that time should check their car for any signs of damage.
