A Dartford man who died after suffering serious head injuries during an assault in the town has been described as "always smiling" by his family.

Ben Mahoney, 30, was found unconscious at a pizza shop in East Hill on Friday and died at the scene.

His family paid tribute to him saying he was a "fun loving joker who never took himself too seriously".

"He will be sadly missed as a son, brother, uncle, nephew and cousin," the family said in a statement.

He was described as a West Ham fan who enjoyed going to the gym and fishing.

"Ben was always smiling and laughing, and that's how we will remember him," the statement said.

Eddie Ives, 29, of St Gregory's Crescent, Gravesend, has been charged with his murder.
