RSPCA says turned away cat owners are dumping pets

Cat owners are dumping their pets at an animal centre in Kent despite previously being told there is no room for them, the RSPCA has said.

Seven animals have been left in the grounds of the charity's centre in Leybourne over the past week.

Staff said they spoke to the owners days before and told them the centre was full and could not accommodate their cats.

The centre is now trying to find foster carers for some of the animals.

Angelina Allingham, the cattery supervisor, said: "Right now they're in temporary accommodation. I'm desperately trying to organise foster homes for some of them.

"But once again, all of our fosterers are taken up with cats as well, so it's a really difficult situation to be in."

The centre, which looks after cats, dogs and other small domestic animals, says it cares for more than 150 animals at any one time.
