Pensioner suffers 'savage attack' in Margate home

A pensioner has been left with multiple fractures and needing 40 stitches in his face after he was attacked in his home.

The 76-year-old man was beaten on Saturday afternoon or evening in Rutland Avenue in Margate, Kent Police said.

He was discovered by a neighbour at 22:30 GMT after he was heard shouting for help.

He had suffered a "savage and sustained attack", a police spokesman said.

He was taken to King's College Hospital in London where he is in a serious but stable condition.

Any witnesses are asked to contact Kent Police who said they were waiting to speak to the victim.
