Police arrest man after 'suspicious' fatal Margate fire

A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after a fire at a gas suppliers in Margate left one man dead and another person injured.

Kent Police said they were treating the blaze at Adams Gas and Leisure on Monday, which involved "a quantity of cylinders", as suspicious.

The man has been bailed until 27 June pending further inquiries.

The man who died in the blaze has been named locally as 18-year-old Jarrad Swan.

Firefighters, paramedics, police and an air ambulance attended the fire which broke out at 15:40 BST.

Witnesses described hearing a series of explosions at the building on Bath Road.

The injured person was taken to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital in Margate to be treated for burns.
