The defeated Conservative candidate in the Rochester and Strood by-election has been selected to stand for her party again at the general election.

Medway councillor and local businesswoman Kelly Tolhurst was beaten by UKIP's Mark Reckless.

He was previously the Conservative MP before defecting in September, triggering a by-election.

Ms Tolhurst was unanimously selected at a Rochester and Strood party meeting on Monday evening.

Mr Reckless gained 16,867 votes in the November by-election, 2,920 more than Ms Tolhurst's 13,947.
