A man has been seriously injured while dismantling an aircraft with an industrial grinder at Manston Airport, in Kent.

The emergency services were called to the airport at 14:30 GMT, following reports of an explosion.

The man was flown by air ambulance to a hospital in London.

Kent Police said the incident was being treated as a suspected industrial accident. The Health and Safety Executive has been informed.

The airport closed last May and was sold to regeneration experts who were planning a £1bn redevelopment.
