Characters from the creators of Wallace and Gromit and Shaun the Sheep are set to be part of a new theme park in Kent.

Aardman Animations have agreed to bring their characters to the Paramount Pictures entertainment resort on the Swanscombe Peninsula.

Owners London Resort Company Holdings plan to open the park at Easter 2020.

Aardman Animations tweeted: "We are delighted to announce we will be part of #LondonParamount. Exciting times @ParamountResort!"

David Testa, director of London Resort Company Holdings (LRCH), said: "Our agreement with Aardman will bring a number of the nation's favourite characters to the resort and introduce them to a whole new international audience."

A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the two companies to feature the animator's intellectual property at the park.

The Paramount theme park on a former cement works in north Kent is expected to create up to 27,000 jobs.

The 900-acre brownfield site is next to Ebbsfleet International station, which is 17 minutes from London and two hours from Paris.

In September, LRCH announced the opening of the park had been delayed by more than a year.

It is due to submit a planning application later this year.

In 2013, Blackpool Pleasure Beach opened a Wallace and Gromit attraction.
