Plans for a new trail stretching 25 miles (40km) along part of the Kent coast have been put forward.

The trail, from Ramsgate to Whitstable, would form part of the England Coast Path, a route which follows the whole of the English coastline.

It is expected to follow existing paths including the Viking Coastal Trail and the Thanet Coastal Path.

A consultation has opened on the The Natural England proposal, with new access ready in 2016.

Right of access

James Seymour, from Natural England, said: "We have had discussions with landowners and key organisers along the proposed route - their input has been essential and helped shape the draft proposals.

"Over the next eight weeks, we are inviting all organisations, farmers, local residents, visitors and businesses to have their say.

"It's important that all responses are taken into account and we look forward to hearing people's views."

The England Coast Path is being created in sections and will give the public right of access in places where it was previously not possible.
