A man who was rescued from the sea when a fishing boat capsized off the Kent coast has died in hospital.

The man, in his 40s, was pulled from the water near Deal Pier when the vessel overturned on Tuesday evening.

He was flown by the HM Coastguard helicopter to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford but was later pronounced dead.

A teenager who was also on the boat when it capsized swam ashore.

An air and sea search involving the coastguard, lifeboats from Walmer, Rye and Ramsgate and police was launched when the vessel overturned at about 19:10 BST.

Kent Police said they were "not currently treating the death as suspicious" and were preparing a report for the coroner.

The force has also referred the incident to the Marine Accident Investigation Bureau.
