A 17-year-old girl from Lancashire is critically ill in hospital after falling seven floors from an apartment block in Spain.

Grace Ford, a pupil at Kirkham Grammar School near Blackpool, fell from the balcony in Magaluf, Majorca, on Saturday.

She is being treated for multiple injuries in the Son Dureta Hospital in Palma.

An 18-year-old British man was arrested for failing to report an accident.

Ms Ford is understood to have been visiting the island with a group of sixth-form friends from her school.

A Foreign Office spokesperson said officials were in touch with Ms Ford's family and were providing consular assistance.

Staff at Kirkham Grammar School were told about the incident on Monday.

"The girl, awaiting A-level results, is currently in hospital and her parents are present," head teacher Douglas Walker said in a statement.

"All those who have learnt of this awful accident are thinking of her and her family at this extremely difficult time."
