Witness appeal after horse crushes girl in Lancashire

Police have launched a fresh appeal for information after a teenager was injured when her horse fell on her.

The 14-year-old girl was preparing her horse for a show in a yard at Rye Close farm, off Caton Green Road, Claughton, Lancashire, on Saturday when it bolted.

The horse, which the girl had tried to keep hold of, then collided with a silver Range Rover which was travelling towards Lancaster on Caton Green Road.

The animal fell on her, causing her internal injuries.

She is being treated at Manchester Royal Infirmary where she is said to be in a serious, but stable condition.

The horse was badly injured and had to be destroyed at the scene.

Pc Craig Irvine said: "I would urge anyone who may have information about this incident to get in touch with us."
