Cyclist critical after A59 crash outside BAE Systems

A 53-year-old cyclist has been seriously injured in a crash outside BAE Systems in Lancashire.

The man, who is from Penwortham, collided with a Seat Leon on the A59 in Samlesbury at about 0705 BST.

Lancashire Police said he was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital where he is being treated for serious injuries to his pelvis and chest.

The road was closed for about two and a half hours after the collision. The man driving the car was unhurt.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is now under way.

Sgt Pete Sculpher, leading the investigation, said: "We spoke with a number of drivers who stopped at the scene, but I believe there may still be others who witnessed this collision who we didn't get chance to speak with and I would urge them to come forward."
