Armed robbery at Lancaster sub post office

Armed men raided a sub post office in Lancashire before escaping with a substantial amount of money.

The two men, one of them wielding a hammer, threatened the postmaster and his wife at the branch on Cleveleys Avenue in Lancaster, on Friday.

Police said the men then ran off towards Morecambe Road, leaving the couple extremely distressed but unhurt.

Anyone with information on the robbery, which happened at 1700 BST, is being urged to contact Lancashire police.

One of the men was said to be carrying a dark-coloured bag.

Det Insp Joanna Dent said: "This is a nasty incident which has left the postmaster and his wife upset and traumatised.

"Thankfully no one was injured but it is imperative the offenders are identified."

I would urge anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area of Morecambe Road near Scale Hall or Cleveleys Avenue to get in touch.
