Man held in Nelson house murder inquiry

A 48-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of another man found dead at a house in Lancashire.

The body of Dean Beardsworth, 37, was discovered by officers who forced their way into the property in Nelson.

Although a post-mortem examination is yet to be carried out, police said he had suffered "significant" head injuries before being found on Monday.

The suspect, from Burnley, was arrested on Wednesday afternoon and is being questioned by detectives.

Lancashire Police said they were trying to establish how he suffered the injuries.

Movements traced

Det Supt Neil Esseen, from the Major Investigation Team, said: "Mr Beardsworth is well known in the area and I would appeal to anyone who may have seen him between lunchtime on Saturday 2 October and 3pm on Monday 4 October 2010 to contact us.

"I am particularly interested in anyone who may have seen Dean in the Eagle Street area on the evening of Saturday 2 October.

"At this stage I am treating this death as suspicious and would appeal for anyone who has information to contact us.

"It is vital that we piece together his movements so that his family can know what happened to their loved one."
