'Sickening' sex attack on woman in her Nelson home

Police have said a sex attack on a 64-year-old woman in her Lancashire home was "sickening" and "despicable".

The woman was attacked by a man who broke into the house in Nelson at about 0130 BST on Friday.

The man was Asian and in his 20s and was carrying a white stick, about 3ft (1m) long. He was wearing a hooded top and tracksuit trousers.

Detectives are urging anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area at the time to contact them.

The man was said to be wearing black tracksuit bottoms, a red T-shirt and a black hooded top with a distinctive white horizontal line on it.

Senior Investigating Officer Det Supt Ian Critchley said: "I would appeal for anyone who recognises the description of the offender to contact police.

"He was also carrying a white wooden stick which is quite unusual so I would appeal to anyone who was in the area between 11pm and 4am who perhaps saw this man to come forward."
