Lancashire police have named a man they want to speak to over an attack on a 26-year-old woman in Clitheroe.

The woman was asleep at a house on Highfield Road on 17 October when a man forced his way inside, went upstairs and seriously assaulted her.

She managed to escape and run off to a member of her family's house nearby, but she was left with serious injuries.

Police want to trace Benjamin Parker, who could be in the Clitheroe or Blackburn areas, over the attack.

He is 5ft 7in (1.7m) tall, of average build with dark hair. He has a number of tattoos, including a lily on the inside of his lower arm.

Det Insp Steve Dowson said: "This was a particularly vicious assault and we are extremely keen to trace this man.

"The attack left the victim not only very shaken but with serious injuries."

He said that any information provided would be treated in confidence.
