A Lancashire hospital has officially opened a new breast care unit.

The centre at Blackpool Victoria Hospital includes a £300,000 digital mammography unit and MRI kit to provide quicker and more precise diagnosis.

In the majority of cases, patients tested for breast cancer from Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre will now benefit from same-day results.

Nurse consultant Debbie Tysver-Robinson described it as "a wonderful new facility" that would improve treatment.

She said: "Timely diagnosis is really important obviously for women and men, and people's loved ones, that are all affected by breast cancer and any breast problems or concerns."

Breast care nurse Sarah Guilfoyle said having breast care in one building would help to "streamline the service and improve the quality of care for patients".
