E-fit released of Burnley sex attacker

An E-fit of a man wanted in connection with a serious sexual assault on New Year's Eve in Burnley has been issued by Lancashire Police.

A 28-year-old woman was subjected to a 20-minute ordeal near an underpass on Westgate at 2000 GMT.

Police said the woman managed to escape towards Accrington Road.

Her attacker has been described as Asian, aged between 17 and 19, about 5ft 7in tall and slim with short dark hair.

He has a circular scar on the right of his chin.

Burnley arrest

Police said he started a conversation with the victim before pushing her to the ground and attacking her.

He was wearing a thick gold necklace, black waist length zip-up jacket, white T-shirt, light blue jeans and bright red boots with black laces.

Det Insp Derry Crorken said: "I would urge anyone who recognises this man or has any information that could help with our investigation to get in touch."

A 22-year-old man from Burnley has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and remains on police bail.
