A Lancashire law firm has announced plans to employ 100 more workers in the coming year.

Emmetts, said its expansion followed an upsurge in negligence claims from individuals against companies and firms seeing protection from these claims.

The Preston-based firm said it will be employing 60 more solicitors and 40 more support staff.

Emmetts currently employs 20 staff from offices on Preston Docklands and in Longridge.

The company, which also has a London office, said its expansion plans come after a successful year.

At the start of 2010 Emmetts said it was winning an average of 50 new clients a month which it said has now risen to 1,000.

Director Richard Emmett, who founded the business seven years ago with his wife Lindsay, said: "We hope Lancashire will be as excited about our growth, and the new opportunities for careers in the legal services, as we are."
