Blackpool woman, 71, burgled twice in a day

An elderly woman from Blackpool has been the subject of a "violent and frightening attack" twice in 24 hours.

Hours after the 71-year-old victim's electric meter had been smashed and money stolen from her flat she awoke to find a man standing next to her bed.

She tried to escape but was forced to the ground and three gold chains were pulled from her neck and a bangle from her wrist, cutting her as it was taken.

Two men have been arrested but police are still appealing for information.

Gold necklaces

The thief ran off after a neighbour was alerted after the victim shouted for help.

Pc Kirsty Jones from Blackpool police said: "We are appealing for anyone who may have knowledge of the items stolen or the man responsible for this violent and frightening attack to contact us."

Police described the suspect as white, in his late 20s about 5ft 8ins (1.72m) tall and of medium build. He was wearing a dark coloured "donkey" style jacket.

Three nine carat gold necklaces were stolen. One had a small yellow gold cross pendant which was given to the victim by her son.

Two Blackpool men have been arrested on suspicion of robbery. A 32-year-old is on bail pending further enquires. A 37-year-old is being questioned by detectives.
