A 45-year-old man who slashed a woman's throat while they were having sex at his Lancashire home has been jailed for life.

Martin Brown, of St George's Lane, Cleveleys, pleaded guilty to attempted murder at an earlier hearing.

He was ordered to serve a minimum term of nine years at Preston Crown Court.

The 41-year-old victim, who was working as a prostitute at the time, suffered a "horrific" laceration which just missed her main artery, police said.

Det Insp Martin Clague, of Lancashire Police, said officers found the woman "naked and in a distressed state with a serious wound to her throat" outside Brown's old house in Victoria Road West, last July.

"This was a horrific crime and could easily have killed her," he said.

"She has been left with a deep 15cm scar on her neck and mental scars as a result of the attack."

He added: "We are very happy with the sentence as it reflects the magnitude and seriousness of the offence."
