More time for Nelson murder detectives

Detectives have been given more time to question a 33-year-old man on suspicion of murdering a woman found dead at her home in Lancashire.

The body of Debra Walsh was found by police at the property in Norfolk Street, Nelson, on Monday afternoon.

The 34-year-old had suffered head and facial injuries although further tests are being carried out to establish the cause of death, police said.

Investigations are continuing and police have appealed for information.

Det Ch Insp Neil Howarth, leading the investigation, said: "I would appeal to anyone with any information that could assist us with this investigation to contact police as a matter of urgency.

"I would also appeal to anyone who knew Debra, any friends or associates, who may have seen her recently to get in touch as we try to build up a picture of her movements in the last few weeks of her life.

"As you would imagine, Debra's family are devastated by what has happened and we have dedicated family liaison officers supporting them at this difficult time."
