The family of a woman who was murdered at her home in Lancashire have said they are "devastated" by their loss.

The body of Debra Walsh, 34, was found by police called to the property on Norfolk Street in Nelson on Monday. She had suffered head and facial injuries.

The family said: "What happened to Debra is unimaginable and we are finding it difficult to take in. We can only hope that justice will be done."

A 33-year-old man has been charged with the murder.

"We are deeply shocked and devastated by the loss of Debra who was not only a loving daughter and wife, but also a wonderful mother to her four-year-old son," the family added.

"We would now request that we are left alone to grieve in private as we try to come to terms with our loss."
