Terminally ill Blackpool woman 'devastated' by burglary

A terminally ill woman has been left "devastated" after burglars stole the last of her personal possessions from her fire-damaged home, police said.

Mary Ashford, 66, was forced to move out of her bungalow on Warley Road, Blackpool, after an electrical fire.

Burglars used a brick to smash a back window at the property, which is being renovated, on Wednesday night and ransack her bedroom.

Police said they stole watches and gold bracelets and appealed for witnesses.

Mrs Ashford, who is suffering from an inoperable brain tumour, moved out of the property in October after it was badly damaged.

She has been unable to live there while repairs are carried out.

A Lancashire police spokesman said: "This is a sad case in which a terminally ill woman has lost the last of her remaining possessions through theft."
