Blackburn car park attack treated as attempted murder

Detectives investigating an attack on a man in a Blackburn car park say they are treating it as attempted murder.

Ryan Livesey was found in a car park off Paradise Lane shortly after 2300 BST on Friday.

Det Supt Neil Esseen, of Lancashire Police, said the 22-year-old from Blackburn remained critically ill.

"We believe Mr Livesey was assaulted by being kicked to the head and upper body in an extremely violent fashion," he said.

Mr Esseen said they had traced CCTV which showed Mr Livesey and a person they believe may have been his attacker arriving at the scene but only one person leaving.

'Come forward'

"I would appeal to that person to come forward now and explain to us exactly what's gone on," he said.

"We don't know the motivation behind this attack, we don't know what led up to it.

"It was a violent attack but there may be a reason for it and if you are that person please come forward.

"It is only a matter of time before we find out who you are and it would be better for you to come forward now."

He said Mr Livesey may have known his attacker, so believes his friends may also know him and urged them to contact police.

Detectives also want to hear from anyone who could help determine Mr Livesey's whereabouts leading up to the attack.
