Three 'dangerous' dogs seized in Lancaster police raids

Three dogs have been seized under the Dangerous Dogs Act by police who raided several properties in Lancaster.

Officers searched addresses in Broadway, Sycamore Grove and Chestnut Grove at about 1030 BST, following concerns from local residents.

A 39-year-old man and two youths aged 16 and 17 were arrested on suspicion of possessing a fighting dog.

Police said specialist officers will now determine whether or not the dogs are illegal breeds.

A 38-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer during the raids.

Insp Ian Hesketh, from Lancashire Police, said: "This operation shows our commitment to taking firm action against anyone believed to be housing dangerous dogs or breeding them to fight.

"I would like to reassure the community that this is not a widespread problem, but is an isolated issue.

"I would also urge residents to contact us if they have any concerns and we will take action on them."
