Homes evacuated after Rossendale garage fire

A number of homes were evacuated after a fire at a garage in east Lancashire.

Fire crews were called to reports of the blaze on Upper Ash Mount in Cloughfold, Rossendale, in the early hours.

Businesses and properties on nearby Victoria Street were evacuated as a precaution. Residents were later allowed to return.

The main A681 road from Rawtenstall to Bacup was also closed but reopened at lunchtime.

A 50m (160ft) cordon remains in place around the scene on Upper Ash Mount.

Rossendale Borough Council said a rest centre at the Old Fire Station in Rawtenstall was available for anyone affected by the fire.
