Two charged over prison van escape in Burscough

Two prisoners have been charged after an escape from a van in Lancashire.

Three men clambered through the skylights of the Prison Service vehicle on the A59 in Burscough on Wednesday.

Kieron Sendall, 22, and Haroon Ahmed, 22, were charged with escaping lawful custody and are due before Chorley magistrates on Thursday.

John Paul Williams, from Manchester, who is serving life for armed robbery remains at large.

Williams, 35, from Longsight, was wearing standard prison clothes.

Police have urged members of the public to call 999 if they see him and not to approach him.

The three were among four prisoners being taken from HMP Garth to different prisons on Merseyside.
