East Lancashire petrol forecourt thieves targeted

Thieves who steal petrol from forecourts in east Lancashire are being targeted in a new scheme.

The Forecourt Watch scheme is being rolled out at petrol service stations across Nelson and Colne.

It will create a link between police, the British Oil Security Syndicate and workers at petrol stations to prevent, record and report incidents.

Stations will also be able to share information on suspects, vehicles and known perpetrators, police said.

Sgt Chris Valentine, of Lancashire Police, said: "This scheme has successfully helped to reduce crime and bring offenders to justice in other areas of Lancashire.

"We recognise that the theft of fuel has a significant impact on consumers, retailers and the police and we are committed to working with other agencies to tackle this sort of crime."
