Tributes have been paid to a Lancashire man who was killed with his dog as they crossed a road on Monday.

Stuart Mather, 60, of Barrowford, was hit by two cars with his dog Hamish on Barrowford Road, Higham, near Burnley.

A family statement said he was "a devoted father and grandfather and had spent the last few years caring for his mother and his expanding family."

He "was a popular, jovial person who very much enjoyed the company of his many friends and family," they added.

Mr Mather was a keen member of East Lancashire Campaign For Real Ale, a Burnley FC fan and follower of Lowerhouse Cricket Club.

He leaves a mother, two sons and three grandchildren.
