Morecambe boy invented abduction by man in hockey mask

A teenage boy who claimed he was forced into a car by a man in a hockey mask in Morecambe invented the "terrifying ordeal", police have revealed.

Lancashire Police issued an appeal for help to trace the man on Tuesday after the 14-year-old reported being grabbed and bundled into a car.

But hours after the alert was sent out, investigations revealed the claims were false and were retracted.

Officers are now interviewing the boy to establish why he misled them.

"No decision has been made on whether any action will be taken," said a spokeswoman for Lancashire Police.
