Arrest after child abduction attempts in Blackpool

Police are investigating the attempted abduction of two children in separate incidents in Blackpool.

A man tried to pick up a two-year-old girl in a back garden on Erdington Road at 1840 BST on Thursday, before being disturbed by her mother and fleeing.

Police were then called to another incident on St Heliers Road at 2200 BST, where a man was found sitting in the bedroom of a four-year-old girl.

A 30-year-old man was arrested near the scene and remains in police custody.

Sue Cawley, of Lancashire Constabulary, said: "Incidents of this nature are incredibly rare in the country, let alone in Blackpool.

"I would like to reassure the local communities that we have a large team of detectives and specialist officers investigating these incidents."

Police have asked anyone with any information to contact them.
