Homes in Bamber Bridge without water as pipes cleaned

About 2,500 homes in Lancashire will be without water overnight while mains pipes are cleaned.

Engineers from United Utilities will be working on pipes in Bamber Bridge between 2300 and 0700 BST from Monday to Friday.

The work is part of a £70m cleaning scheme to improve the quality of drinking water at the tap.

Residents have been advised to store water for minor use and to expect some initial water discolouration.

"The shut-off is unavoidable and will allow engineers to clean large underground water pipes that supply tap water to around 11,000 homes across the town," a company spokesman said.

Collins Road will be closed on Monday evening to allow the equipment to be set up.

If the water is discoloured residents should let the tap run for a while until it clears.
