Nearly 70 schools across Lancashire are to share £10.5m in order to make them more energy efficient.

Roofs, doors and walls are all on the repair list, while mechanical items such as boilers will also be repaired to reduce their carbon emissions.

Lancashire County Council said it was a substantial investment in schools with more to come later in the year.

The measures taken should ensure that the buildings are better able to cope with disruptive weather conditions.

"This is about making a difference in individual schools, doing as many as we can, focussing on high priority work the sort of thing which could lead to school closures", Mike Hart, Lancashire County Council's director for resources, said.

The work is expected to take about two months to complete.
