Six arrested on immigration offences in Preston bars

Five men and a woman have been arrested by immigration officers in raids on seven bars in Preston.

Officers from the Border Agency questioned members of staff employed as toilet attendants in the raids at about 00:30 BST on Sunday.

The six, who are all Nigerian, were arrested on immigration offences and the Border Agency said steps were being taken to remove them from the UK.

The operation was part of a nationwide campaign to tackle illegal working.

Eddy Montgomery, operations director of the UK Border Agency in the North West, said: "We are absolutely determined to stamp down on those businesses that ignore our immigration laws."
