Three held over bat and club attack in Preston street

Three men have been arrested after a man was attacked by a group of men with bats and clubs in a Preston street.

The men, aged 18, 19 and 22, were detained when police carried out a series of raids in Preston and Penwortham earlier.

They are all being questioned on suspicion of section 18 wounding.

The 28-year-old victim was attacked in the Caroline Street and Maitland Street area of Preston at about 23:45 BST on Thursday.

'Vicious attack'

Det Ch Insp Ian Dawson, of Lancashire police, said: "Reducing violent crime is a key priority for Preston police and today's operation has used resources from various policing teams across the county.

"This was a vicious attack and I would continue to appeal to anybody who witnessed it or who has any information about it to contact police.

"I would reassure people that all information will be acted upon and treated in confidence.

"I must emphasise that this type of offence is rare and we will continue to take positive action in ensuring a proactive response to violent offences and reassure the community this activity will not be tolerated."
