Woman, 87, dies after being hit by a car in Kirkham

An 87-year-old woman has died after she was hit by a car as she crossed a road in Lancashire.

Gwennie Dean was struck by a Nissan Micra on Poulton Street outside the Queen's Arms pub in Kirkham on Monday.

She was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital with serious head injuries but died in the early hours.

Police said they have been unable to trace her next-of-kin and have asked for family members to come forward.

Ms Dean is believed to have come from Yorkshire but had lived in Kirkham for many years.

Sgt Dave Hogarth said: "Sadly, as yet we haven't been able to trace any members of Mrs Dean's family and I would appeal to any family members to contact police.

"I am also keen to speak with anybody who may be aware of Gwennie's family history.

"An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is ongoing and I would still appeal for anybody who witnessed it to come forward."
