A 64-year-old man who collapsed after he was involved in an argument outside his Lancashire home has died.

Police were called to reports of a row outside a house on Market Street in Whitworth at about 22:00 BST on Sunday.

Patrick Gallagher was found collapsed inside and was taken to Fairfield Hospital for treatment, but died in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Five people - two men aged 64 and 59 and two men and a woman all aged 46 - have been arrested over the incident.

Cause of death

They have all been released on bail pending further inquiries.

A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out on Thursday to establish the cause of death.

Det Ch Insp Mark Gray, from the force's major investigation team, said: "Our investigation into this incident continues and we have interviewed many people in and around the local area.

"However, I would urge anybody that was passing through the Market Street area of Whitworth on Sunday night that witnessed anything they believe could assist us with our inquires to contact us."
