Multi-million pound plans to turn the site of the former Preston SPAR distribution depot into a new food store and housing have been submitted.

James Hall & Co Ltd operated from the Blackpool Road site for the past 45 years and are negotiating with retailer Morrisons to build a supermarket.

The plans suggest that up to 400 jobs could be created which could help with the Lancashire town's regeneration.

If council consent is given building work could start next year.

The company said it had revised its initial plans after consulting nearby residents last month.

About 23 new houses could be built on the site as well as the construction of improved road layouts and parking facilities for West View leisure centre.
