A Lancashire man, who had sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl, has been jailed for three years and eight months at Preston Crown Court.

Michael Wicks, 31, of Skip Lane, Hutton, pleaded guilty last month to seven counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child.

The offences were committed in the South Ribble area between February and June 2011.

Wicks was also given a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

'Threatened suicide'

The judge also placed him on the sex offenders register and issued a restraining order in relation to his victim.

Speaking after the sentence, Det Sgt Vicky Leighton said: "Wicks preyed on this young girl and groomed her despite knowing her age and her vulnerability.

"He was very manipulative and even threatened suicide if she did not keep meeting him.

"We are dedicated to tackling child sexual exploitation, targeting offenders and helping those children who have become, or are at risk of becoming, victims."

Police said Wicks had been served with a child abduction warning notice by police on 13 May 2011, which informed him the victim was under 18 and said that he had no permission to contact or communicate with her.
