Man arrested after Lancashire police officer is run over

A man has been arrested after a police officer was injured when a car was driven at him in Blackburn.

The Volkswagen Golf was driven at police in Livingstone Road at about 23:40 BST on Monday when they tried to approach the car.

One of the officers suffered a broken foot when the vehicle ran over it, a police spokesman said.

A 21-year-old man is being questioned on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop after an accident.

Lancashire police said they were trying to trace the car, with registration plates PN60 UJX.

Det Insp Mark Winstanley said: "I am particularly keen to locate the vehicle and would ask anyone who has either seen the vehicle or perhaps been asked to repair it since this incident to report this to police.

"It is likely to have accident damage to the rear and the driver's window was also smashed during the incident.

"Given that this is a new vehicle I would expect it to stand out given the extent of damage caused during the incident."
