Some homes in part of Lancashire are still without water following a mains burst on Tuesday.

United Utilities said it had secured supplies for the majority of customers affected in the Hyndburn area using an alternative water pipe.

Engineers are still working on securing water supplies in Accrington, Oswaldtwistle and Clayton-le-Moors.

Tankers containing water have been placed at several locations to allow residents to collect supplies.

Eight schools in Accrington and Oswaldtwistle were closed on Thursday because of the burst.

Large water containers are still in Accrington at Booth Street, Fountain Place, Charter Street, Edleston Street/Pickup Street junction, Russia Street and King Street.

Bottled water is also available at Hyndburn Leisure Centre and in Oswaldtwistle.

A spokesperson from United Utilities said: "We know how frustrating it is for the remaining customers whose taps are still not flowing, but we are doing everything possible to rectify this."
