Royal Blackburn Hospital security guard attacked
A hospital security guard has been stabbed in an unprovoked attack, Lancashire Police have said.
Police said the 29-year-old guard met a man at about 00:10 BST while he patrolled the Royal Blackburn Hospital.
The security guard was stabbed after he asked the man if he needed any help.
Det Insp Jill Johnston, of Blackburn CID, said the security guard's stab vest was the only thing that prevented him from being seriously hurt.
She added: "It is highly unusual for something like this in these circumstances to happen and I would reassure the public that we are treating this matter extremely seriously.
"The victim was not seriously hurt but he has been left shaken following his ordeal and he is being supported by officers."
